Hi,

Bill Kelly-Buxton
ABD at University of Utah, Department of Educational Studies
Employed at Minot State University, North Dakato (vainly looking for
downhill skiing)

Teach foundations of reading courses and methods of reading in primary
grade courses

Interests/but really questions: How do some children come to the literacy
we use in classrooms and others don not; how do social relations and power
relations effect what we call literacy and children's relations with
literacy; just what is literacy anyway? What is the role of schools in
our society? What is the role of literacy in our society? What should the
role of each of those be?

Influenced by: Certainly many from the first half of this century and last
half of previous, but am probably most interested in what people are doing
right now. Barbara Rogoff, jim Wertsch, and Jean Lave for looking at
learning; John Fiske and Lawrence Grossberg from cultural studies bringing
in power and an belief in change that will improve our lives.

Looking forward to the discussions
