Director of the Regents' Center for Early Developmental Education and
Professor of Curriculum and Instruction, University of Northern Iowa. Main
interests in constructivist early education inspired by Piaget's theory. Most
recently co-authored book _Moral Classrooms, Moral Children: Creating a
Constructivist Atmosphere in Early Education_ (DeVries & Zan, 1994, Teachers
College Press). Interested in cognitive and sociomoral development, curriculum
in early education, program comparison theory and research. Recent article in
_Young Children_ is summary of Moral Classrooms book. Book by DeVries &
Kohlberg: _Constructivist Early Education: Overview and Comparison of
Programs_ (1990: National Association for the Education of Young Children)
