I am a doctoral student at UC, San Diego and a now external
member of LCHC. I'm writing my dissertation in developmental
psychology under the direction of Mike Cole, Yrjo Engestrom and
Olga Vasquez.
Currently, I have predoctoral fellowship at the Institute
for Research on the African Diaspora in the Americas and the Caribbean
at the City College of New York. My duties there include teaching
social psychology to undergraduates and helping to develop a
course on the psychology of African American males, which I will
co-teach with Edmund Gordon in the spring.
My research, using discourse analysis to examine cultural identity
and socialization among adult Catholics, is inspirred by Vygotsky
and those who developed his work and similar trends (Mike Cole,
Jim Wertsch, and many in Activity Theory). I am increasingly concerned
about applying knowledge from the cultural-historical tradition to
the education of students of color in urban settings.
I look forward to being an active participant on xmca.
