I am on the faculty of the School of Education at California State
University San Bernardino in the Dept. of Elementary & Bilingual Education.
I am primarily concerned with understanding and developing curricular &
instructional means to enhance the academic development of
Spanish-speaking/language minority students in our public schools. Of
special interest is how to design/develop socio-educational contexts (in or
out of school) which enable these students to develop their"bilingual
metacognitive development" overtime. How does or can this interiorization
of metacognitive (awareness and control) strategies/ process occur in
bilingual contexts, what role does language (L1/L2) play in this and how can
we "analyze" such activity in classrooms ?
To date I have been inspired by the work and writings of Vygotsky,
Leont'ev, Wertsch, Cole, Rogoff, Zinchencko, McDermot, Moll& Diaz and
Davydov. As a teacher educator I have to be concerned with both the Basic
nature of these processes/activities and their Application with everyday
teachers, children and schools. Thank you.
