I am working at the Institute for Educational Research, Jyvaskyla, Finland.
(This is a institute of 60 people divided into 6 research groups). I am the
head of a research group called "Culture and learning". We have a five years
research program orientod to the development of research methodology trough
concrete projects and contexts (university teaching,professional adult
education, arts, primary education and day care institutions). The following
themes are central in our work:
-the quality of teaching and learning as inner characteristic of an
activity system
-the construction of cultural meaning and objects of learning as social
phenomena
-organizations, groups, teams and individuals as units of learning
-multiculturalism, multidisciplinarity and comparison of cultures in
learning and development
We co-operate with the Center for Activity Theory and Developmental Work
Research, Helsinki lead by prof Yrjo Engestrom. Our theoretical frame is
cultural theory and activity theory.
