Gentlefolk

My name is Kenn Martin and my Reader's Digest Condensed Version goes
something like this...

I am finishing a Masters in Information Systems at Curtin University
(thesis due in the end of this month) where my research was in incidental
learning and the use of Lotus Notes. I have an interest in learning as an
emergent behaviour of systems. I tried to look at how collaborative
computing might support organisational learning.

During that research I came across the 1989 paper on Situated Cognition by
Brown and Collins and the work of Lave on Legitimate Peripheral
Participation. Various papers talked about computer systems (like Notes or
the WWW) acting as scaffolding for users to extend their zone of proximal
development. I am interested in extending my understanding of these areas.

In my current position at the Universtity of Western Australia I provide
support to staff in information technology, am involved in constructing web
presences for various departments at the university and very much
interested in finding better tools for users to access information. I
became aware of your list through a posting to the learning organisation
list. I look forward to participating and learning thru your discussion
list.
