Erica McAteer, Department of Psychology, University of Glasgow
I am just about to take up a secondment post with the University of
Glasgow's Teaching and Learning Service, working with teachers
and students within different departments. One task is to consider
existing learning resources and teaching strategies which might
support student centred learning, and how these may be extended/adapted
within and across subject areas and student levels. Another is to
find where and when learning difficulties arise for particular students
or with particular topics within subject areas and, collaboratively,
establish support strategies within the teaching and learning system.
My first degree was in Psychology and Religious Studies, doctorate
in Psychology followed by some teaching (language and cognition)
and research in communication and interactive learning. Most recently
I have been heavily involved in evaluation - of computer assisted
learning within degree courses here at Glasgow, across a variety of
disciplines. I begin this year's work with great interest and about as
much trepidation - so very much need the xfamily forum. Theoretical
and practical influences include Vygotsky, Piaget, Widdowson, Lakoff,
Wood, Pask, Labov, Marsten, Doise, Bruner - I am leaving out too many...
