I work at Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, B.C. in the Faculty of
Education. I teach in the area of minority language education and TESL
methodology. I am interested in ethnography of classrooms, especially ones
enrolling children of minority language backgrounds. I am currently
involved in an ethnography of such a classroom--kids are now in grade 1 (I
watched them in kindergarten as well). I'm interested in how a perspective
which sees second language learning as a situated social practice will
change how we think/do about these practices. Also interested in how
school identities are constructed.
