I am currently a professor in the Reading/Language Arts program at
Appalachian State Univ in Boone, NC. My scholarly interests have been in,
literacy, reading comprehenion and teacher education. I'm currently
involved in the Fifth Dimension research project here at ASU; we have
been looking primarily at transfer issues. I also have a
telecommunications project which hooks content area reading courses at
six universities nationwide through an email network. I'm currently
beginning to analyze some 900 messages from the first full semester of
the project.

I have read widely but not in enough depth in cultural historical theory.
I read Vygotsky first as a doctoral student in the late 1970s, and
continue to read and be influenced by his work. I read Cole
and Scribner's work in the early 1980s, and continue to read a lot of
Cole. Recently I have read Wertsch, Leontiev, Luria, Engstrom and Wells.
I have lurked on xlchc lists for a couple of years, and find the
discussions insightful. I'm looking forward to seeing how the new list
works out.
