Lois describes my understanding, but would add that the *management of
time*is a key factor and other agencies may not meet the deadline.
That's is
partly of course what causes the stress. I have an acquaintance who did
this for a luxury hotel cum theme park/golf course and now works freelance
with her husband. Very few people understood the stress, and she told funny
stories about the the clash of of expectations on the part of different
cultures, Needless to say, South African versus German customers were an
example.

I have seen one on a reality programme on TV (USA): the woman performed
miracles in a luxury hotel even though the hotel staff were tardy and
unhelpful.

In South Africa glamorous weddings are all arranged  by a wedding planner.
 The couple get to choose the theme with the planner, and (generally) she
has to carry this through from place/ table settings, other decorations,
through to the shape and size of the cake. In one, the bridal couple wanted
40,000 red roses, and they all had to be imported and kept chilled, as they
were out of season.
