The other person that Paulo Freire is talking about in the video is  
Emilia Ferreiro, a Argentinian researcher, who developed a theory of  
reading and writing adquisition from a constructivistic perspective  
which has been applied worldwide (my own children have had the  
privilege of learning with her method here in Madrid). I think Mike  
could give you some of her references in English.
