 Yes the metaphor of 'outside' - I knew you would ask, depends upon how 'activity' is being used. It seems that it is appropriated to refer to many scales of collective production and this makes it difficult to consider subjectivity corresponding to 'runaway objects', transdisciplinary practice. When many activities - but not one motive  or object being produced become proximal -might be 'outside'. Or when a person is resolving contradiction in senses through artistic practice - can this be 'outside' a collective production - when a new form is created changing or other than  historical forms already  not responding to artifacts but producing which is collectively significant?  I don't know, I was responding to FGR's article here:
"With subject as the person who actively produces new subjective alternatives within a given social situation, entering in contradiction to standardized rituals, procedures, and values dominant in that specific situation, the subject is always singular and grounded in his or her own subjective configurations".

The question of communication is also a relation removed in that language is co-ordinating our co-ordination ( or integration) of actions in activity(ies) and I was prompted by this 
 p.39' Thus, following Lomov, ''Communication appearsas an autonomous and specific form of subject's activeness. It's result is not the transformation of the object(material or ideal), but the relations with other persons"
(here I'm not clear that Ilyenkov's notion of ideal is not being replaced by a more simple 'physical material/abstract='ideal' notion)
 but the passage follows to Smirnov's observation of encountering a person's gaze as 'processes of communication [which] have completely different bases than those on which rest the concept of activity'...

Would seem to be an event that must figure  and stimulate relations to generate a context for transdiciplinary work.

In the 'displacement' there are different ways I could begin - I guess I was thinking that there's a 'displacement'  between a movement from experience to cultivate a meaningful 'scientific concept' 'locally ( and this requires unfolding), and 'importing in' an existing theoretical 'scientific concept' to be acquired as a tool for predicaments experienced locally.

An example in my predicament supervising project work: irrigation in agriculture - where traditional methods and imported technologies juxtapose from different activity. Export-driven production ( and national economic dependency upon this activity) degrades environmental and agricultural habitat. In these situations wisdom from indiginous local cultivation practices are sought to inform development of agricultural practice. Educationally the 'scientific concept'  to do this is in  action-research, and training programmes require the stance of action-research for the leading edge  'peasant farmers' (even the term in English has an historical pejorative connotation  which is unhelpful...).

Dear Andy,
 I recently used Winnicot as a start to begin to explore conceptual tool in a discussion. My impression was that Winnicot 's transitional object provides an understanding of  emotional transition  ( and often of an individual person) rather than acquiring and being transformed by 'conceptual reasoning'  in activity in the acquisition and changing a psychological horizon related to an experienced predicament. 
Separation of emotional and rational is not helpful, and Fernando Gonzalez Rey's article draws out how personal sense relates to  orient to motive of activity , and from that to imagine goal directed action. Also his article brought out how much attention is given to internalising, but perhaps not  'externalising' difference . 
I was taken by the discussion of 'communication ' in social relations as outside activity or project, when encountering on-going activity in  being drawn towards a need to participate would seem to be a moment when expression of alterity is already a social relation, not yet motivated in activity, and not yet designing an imagined goal, a social relation which  calls for externalising through personal sense, in emotionally oriented and also  historical dispositional 'meeting'.

My predicament is my understanding  is that 'global' ideological causes displace local developmental transformation without such an understanding, relevant in sustainable developmental intervention. 
 I'm struggling in my predicament to situate creativity in transformative agency.
