Dear Colleagues

Please circulate widely, thank you.

The interdisciplinary Cardiff School of Social Sciences is looking to appoint a Lecturer in
Psychology who is enthusiastic about teaching the Cognitive Psychology elements of the BPS (British
Psychology Society) syllabus. The appointed person would be part of a vibrant group of
psychologists who identify themselves as 'critical' 'socio-cultural, 'psychosocial' and
'developmental'. The appointed person would be encouraged to develop a critical approach to teaching
cognitive psychology. The advert details are below and the full advert is available on
http://www.cf.ac.uk/jobs/academic/20080242-290408.html

Lecturer in Social Sciences - Social Psychology - 2008/0242
Social Sciences

Reference:2008/0242Closing date:29 April 2008Type:Academic Research and SeniorSalary:£27,466 -
£33,780 per annum (Grade 6) £34,814 - £40,335 per annum (Grade 7) The School is seeking to make
an appointment at lecturer level. While the decision on the successful candidate will be based on
the potential demonstrated to make a full contribution to the research and learning aims of the
School, the grade to which initial appointment may be made (either 6 or 7) will recognise the
current level of experience and performance commensurate with the role profiles for Grades 6 and
7.

To teach on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the School, specifically but not
exclusively on the School’s two BPS recognised routes (one in social sciences and one in
education). In addition, the school offers a psychosocial route through the masters in social
science research methods to which the appointee would also contribute. You will be expected to
work with students across these fields and be passionate about developing this kind of work in the
context of interdisciplinary research in the social sciences.

Although the advert states 'social psychology' we are interested in is someone with a background in
cognitive psychology who also has an interest and commitment to psychosocial and/ or critical
approaches.

Best wishes
Gabrielle
