Dean, College of Education
The University of Georgia invites nominations and applications for the
position of Dean of the College of Education. The successful candidate will
have substantial administrative and fiscal management experience;
significant intellectual achievement; and the academic credentials or
professional experience-Ph.D. or other appropriate terminal degree highly
preferred-to be appointed a professor with tenure in the College of
Education.
The new dean will be a collaborative, ethical, entrepreneurial leader with a
track record of consensus building who will lead a College of Education with
excellent education and research programs and:
* Lead, develop and support a positive environment for
research-oriented faculty to enhance the quality of undergraduate programs
and the reputation of graduate programs;
* Recruit and retain a strong, diverse and culturally accepting
faculty and student body;
* Develop and maintain strong relationships and/or programs with
public and private school organizations in Athens and surrounding
communities, Atlanta, the state of Georgia, nationally, and internationally;
* Build and sustain a relationship with the Georgia Department of
Education, key state and national education leaders and NCATE; and
* Raise funds to support programs, research and facilities.
College of Education
One of the largest and most diverse colleges of its kind in the nation, the
UGA College of Education offers 15 undergraduate majors and more than 34
graduate programs leading to careers as educators, counselors,
psychologists, administrators, researchers, educational and health-related
specialists. Its graduate programs are perennially ranked among the nation's
top 20 public universities. At least five of its programs - elementary
education, secondary education, counseling and human development services,
and vocational/technical education - have ranked among the top 10 for more
than a decade. Four other COE programs have consistently ranked among the
top 20. The College's rigorous academic programs offer opportunities for
study and research with many nationally and internationally recognized
faculty who are pursuing cutting-edge research, forging bold initiatives and
building community-based partnerships.
The University is situated in Athens, Georgia, a very attractive place to
live, a vibrant university town of 100,000 (250,000 in the SMSA) located
approximately 60 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta, an international
business center with a population over 4M. Athens is convenient to Atlanta,
an affordable housing market, a moderate climate, with proximity to
recreational opportunities (driving distance to both the Atlantic and Gulf
coasts and 40 minutes from the mountains).
