TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
TESOL
Beginning Fall 2008
DESCRIPTION: The Department of Language and Literacy Education at the
University of Georgia seeks a tenure-track assistant professor specializing
in the teaching of English Language Learners in K-12 school settings. We
seek the highest quality scholar with preferred research and teaching
expertise in any of the following areas: discourse analysis, functional
grammar/educational linguistics, community-based language programs,
sociocultural or sociocognitive theories of language learning, and/or
teacher education. This is an academic-year appointment that begins August
2008.
QUALIFICATIONS: A doctorate in TESOL, applied linguistics, bilingual
education, second language acquisition, or related field by July 2008, is
required. Evidence of successful research, teaching, and potential for
securing external funding.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in TESOL and
applied linguistics. Develop graduate courses in candidate's areas of
specialization. Establish an active research and publication agenda
involving undergraduate and graduate students. Seek external funding for
research. Advise graduate students, and direct masters and doctoral student
thesis and dissertation research. Provide leadership in the development of
a TESOL teacher certification program and work with other faculty in a
dynamic and growing Teaching Additional Languages (TESOL and Languages other
than English) program. Information about the department is available at

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
