Subject: [cogdevsoc] Position in the Combined Program in Education and
Psychology at the University of Michigan
To: Cognitive Development Society <cogdevsoc@listserv.unc.edu>
The School of Education at the University of Michigan invites
applications for an open rank (tenured or tenure track) position to be
affiliated with the Combined Program in Education and Psychology to
begin Fall 2006. The Combined Program in Education and Psychology is an
interdisciplinary program comprised of faculty members in the School of
Education, Department of Psychology, and other units with interests in
applying psychological methods to the understanding and improvement of
educational processes, broadly construed.
We are looking for candidates who present evidence of an active research
agenda and a program of scholarship focused on psychological approaches
to social/motivational processes or other significant educational
issues. We are particularly interested in candidates who take a
contextual approach to their work, for instance, emphasizing ways that
community, cultural, developmental, family, school/organizational, or
social factors influence psychosocial and academic development.
Candidates' research should have implications for current educational
issues, such as school reform, urban education, racial/ethnic or
socioeconomic achievement disparities, working with diverse populations,
or positive youth development and add to our basic knowledge of
processes that underlie development and competence. The successful
candidate also will have demonstrated excellence in (or potential for
excellence in) teaching and be committed to advising graduate students.
The University of Michigan has a long tradition of support for
interdisciplinary research and education, and joint appointments with
other departments or research centers are a possibility.
Please submit letter of application, curriculum vitae, sample
publications, and a list of three or more references with contact
information to:
Dr. Tabbye Chavous
Chair, Education and Psychology Search Committee
School of Education, University of Michigan
610 E. University, Room 1406

Application review will begin on February 1, 2006 and continue until the
position is filled. Women and minority candidates are encouraged to
apply. The University is supportive of the needs of dual career couples.
All applications will be acknowledged.
The University of Michigan is an equal opportunity/affirmative action
employer.
