 Position Title: Assistant Professor of Education Studies

Institution: University of California, San Diego

Location: La Jolla, California

 The Education Studies program at the University of California, San Diego
invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position starting July 2006
to support a new Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program in Educational
Leadership being implemented in collaboration with San Diego State
University and California State University, San Marcos.

 The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary faculty whose
research interests include educational reform, linguistic and cultural
diversity, distributed cognition and learning, teacher professional
development, school and district development and change, family and school
partnerships, and uses of educational technology in teaching and learning

 The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to a program of
research at UCSD that contributes significantly to the national dialog on
effective instruction and school leadership in areas such as visionary
school reform, equity of access in a diverse society, or educational
leadership theory. Responsibilities for this position will include: teaching
graduate and undergraduate courses; maintaining an active program of
research; and guiding working practitioners in conducting dissertation
research.

 The teaching schedule for this program will require flexibility on the part
of the faculty since courses will be offered evenings, weekends and summers
to accommodate the work schedules of the graduate students who will be drawn
from local educators and administrators who demonstrate outstanding
leadership potential.

 Desired qualifications include: a doctoral degree in a discipline relevant
to research in educational leadership; evidence of research excellence and a
clear plan for future educational research studies; excellent communication
skills; and evidence of successful teaching in higher education. The ideal
candidate will have expertise in the application of mixed-methods research
designs that include the use of quantitative and qualitative methodologies,
and will have experience teaching research design and methods*.* In
addition, the ideal candidate will have experience working with K-12 school
district personnel to improve school outcomes.
