Vygotsky and Marx

Dear XMCAers,

Thanks to Mike I'm reposting the following to the XMCA listserv (I thought I'd done so already, but through some technological trap door I sent it to the wrong list).  Here 'tis:

Someone who participated in the XMCA course last Winter/Spring (though she admints being an "inactive" participant ;-)) used a course e-mail message to get back in touch with me, but has a request for ideas on a Vygotskyt booklet "for undergrads, parents, and interested socialists" that sounds like she'd like to share her request with a wider group, so I'm forwarding this to all of you on the XMCA listserv.

Shirley may or may not be an XMCA listserv member currently and so a direct reply to her e-mail address below would probably be helpful to her.  Thanks!

In Peace,
K.

Thanks Kevin,

I was a rather inactive participant on the course before but couldn't
find my details!
I revisited as I am starting to write a short booklet for undergrads,
parents, and interested socialists- an easy introduction to
Vyugotsky!!! A great challenge, as most things need to be explained.
But I want to show how Vygotsky's ideas are inter-related and are
Marxist/Hegelian and rooted, too in Spinoza.
I get irritated how non-marxists treat his work by taking bits of it
to suit them, without understanding that much of it is a whole
approach - if that makes sense.
This stems from my students' enthusiasm about the area and my
challenge to make the ideas accessible to my very disparate groups of
learners.
So if anyone would like to offer ideas, etc please get in touch
Shirley
