Senior Professor

The Indiana University Bloomington School of Education is seeking a
senior professor to join the new Learning Sciences program in August
2004. This is the first of six new Learning Sciences positions to be
filled over the next five years through a Chancellor's initiative to
expand the already world class Cognitive Science program. The
successful candidate will join a core faculty of seven in building the
Learning Sciences program including the development of the PhD and
Master's program, intercampus and school linkages, and a research
institute. The Learning Sciences program is housed in the School of
Education, one of the top ranked Education programs in the country, and
is closely tied in a collaborative relationship with the rest of the
Cognitive Science program on campus.

The successful candidate is expected to have a distinguished record of
research, a strong record in obtaining external funding, a recognized
ability to collaborate and build collegial relations, and a strong
interest and skills in helping to build the leading Learning Sciences
program in the world. Area of research is open. Some linkage to
mathematics and science education and to the use of technology is an
advantage.

Indiana University's School of Education has over 100 faculty and awards
over 700 teaching degrees each year making it a rich environment to
impact teacher education. Our facilities are state of the art with an
advanced networking environment. The campus itself has been rated one of
the most wired in the nation. Also, the nation's largest supercomputer
was placed online last year. The IUB campus sits in the rolling hills
of southern Indiana with forests and the largest lake in the state
nearby. It is a culturally rich environment, housing a premier music
school.
