I have just looked at the index of the 6 vols of LSV. The terms context and situation
are totally absent, except for one referenct to a german term of which situation is a
part. Also missing is the idea of the "social situation of development" from the
index.
The term situation does turn up in the article on play in Mind and Society.
This topic is worth extensive and careful consideration because it is one of the many
places where how LSV was interpreted and what he meant for his audience at his time
may well diverge. Or it could be (I believe this) that tool mediation and contextualism
are intimately connected. Note also that the term, context, is polysemic and the way in
which Tudge is using it is ambiguous with respect to major anglo-American uses of the
term.
