Hello,
This is a posting regarding the Lave & McDermott paper, "Estranged
Learning," which was on and then off, but soon to be back on the xmca
website. (Its path to this listserve may have been circuitous, but I
recommend it as a thoughtful piece that discusses/translates/interprets
contemporary ideas about learning using Marx's concept of "alienated
labor." Jean Lave and Ray McDermott were nice about giving permission for
it to be posted here.)
The editor of Outlines, Ole Dreier, wanted to let readers know about the
journal. Here is the basic information about Outlines: Outlines is a new
and small journal, desperately in need of subscriptions, individual as well
as institutional. For members of ISCAR (formerly ISCRAT) there is a price
reduction, just as on MCA. Abstracts can be found on the following page:
www.psyk.ku.dk/forsk/udgiv/outlines/
and you may subscribe by emailing the publishing company dk-psych@dpf.dk or
go their homepage www.dpf.dk. and their advertisement of Outlines:
www.dpf.dk/defoutlines.htm
The price for one volume of 2 issues is 29 EUROs, students 21,5 EUROs
Apparently the members of the editorial board of this journal are already
paying for its existence out of their own pockets.
Jean Lave added the following:
"Here's the publication information:
Jean Lave and Ray McDermott 2002. Estranged Labor[should have a
line through it] Learning. Outlines: Critical Social Studies.
Vol.4(1):19-48.
Other articles in Vol4(1)include: Mariana Valverde Experience and
Truthtelling: Intoxicated Autobiography and Ethical Subjectivity.
Anne Edwards, Lin MacKenzie, Stewart Ranson & Heather Rutledge, Disruption
and Disposition in Lifelong Learning. Sampsa Hyysalo, Transforming the
Object in Product Design.
If readers wanted to make a contribution to the journal instead
of, or in addition to, a subscription, they could contact Ole Dreier
directly at "Ole Dreier" <Ole.Dreier@psy.ku.dk>."
Happy reading,
Ben
