Phil;

Mike has commented on Kozulin's interpretation of Vygotsky and much of
Kozulin's work is with the cultural integrations that occur in Isreal as a
result of all the pilgramages.

Vygotsky did not view 'disabled' people as would be the definition today but
rather measured their ability to translate cultural artifacts via
psychological meaning making tools. The 'method of double stimulation' was
used as a constant and then Vygotsky and his colleagues used age and cultural
variations [schooled v. unschooled being one] to see if there was any
similarity in functioning on the experimental tasks in people from similar
cultural backgrounds.

Since Mike Cole has participated in numerous projects that have addressed
these issues it would far better for me to ask his assistance at this point
than go any further in the dark without a flashlight.
