DEAN

SCHOOL OF EDUCATION

The University of Colorado at Denver invites applications and nominations
for the position of Dean of the School of Education. CU-Denver aspires to
become a “Top 10 Urban Research Institution” by 2010, and the Dean of
Education will play a key role in reaching this goal. The Dean reports to
the Vice Chancellor for Academic & Student Affairs.

CU-Denver is Colorado’s only public urban university, located in lower
downtown Denver (LoDo), a center for the arts, restaurants, galleries, and
business. It is part of the Auraria Higher Education Center campus, also
home to the Metropolitan State College of Denver and the Community College
of Denver. The three institutions share a library (operated by
CU-Denver), administrative and classroom buildings equipped with
cutting-edge technologies, and related facilities on the 127-acre Auraria
campus.

CU-Denver’s School of Education serves a largely graduate student
population, with more than 50 full-time faculty in five divisions. The
School is accredited by the North Central Association, NCATE, and the
specialized accrediting bodies for each program. It is the campus leader
in attracting federal grants. The School has developed a distinctive
vision and commitment to addressing difficult problems of practice, direct
engagement with practitioners, and support for the various professions
related to education and counseling. The School has established a
well-deserved reputation in the Denver metropolitan area in preparing
highly competent, culturally responsive and skillful leaders – in
bilingual education, school counseling and community mental health,
general and special education, information and learning technologies,
literacy, educational administration, school psychology, science and
mathematics education, educational psychology, early childhood education,
and educational leadership.

As a founding member of the Colorado Partnership for Educational Renewal,
the School of Education plays an active role in the National Network for
Educational Renewal, promoting the values of democratic society. Through
nationally recognized partnerships with local schools and districts,
infant and early childhood programs, corporate and adult learning
organizations, and mental health services, the School of Education
emphasizes learning through practice in teaching, leadership, and applied
research.

Applicants and nominees for Dean of the School of Education should
demonstrate exceptional qualities of leadership, research, teaching and
service, with an earned doctorate and credentials consistent with
appointment at the rank of professor. The Dean articulates a vision and
provides academic, intellectual, and administrative leadership for the
