Tks Mike, for letting us - me - take notice of Martin's work.
" He managed to create a
computer interface that, with extensive training, allow the child to
communicate in writing (perhaps also computer-generated speech, I do not
recall)."
I saw some weeks ago, here, in TV, the presentation of a similar software,
created by a
brazilian researcher, developped as a personal tool to a paraplegic
middle-woman psychologist.
She could operate the computer by voice commands and her deposition that
occasion sounded very
strong to me. She said: "Now, I got my [social] life back"
"His motive was NOT
communication with others in general, it was a desire for normal human
relations with girls. But girls were no more interested in him, owing to
his disability, after he learned to communicate. As a result, he fell into
a deep depression and stopped communicating altogether."
I personally think that this is only a temporary emotional state of him - I
guess.
Maybe he can find other ways to get sex or "interest" from woman and girls.
That painfull "moment" or "turning point" seems me absolutelly necessary
in order he can construct a more realistic view of
social relations in capitalist society.
