In this unsettling era of postmodern, post-coldwar uncertainties, there appears
to be renewed interest not only in state sponsored relgious activities of various
kinds, ranging from wars among civilizations to "faith-based initiatives"
(favored by my institutional leaders, as if by spontaneous insight), but also
an interest in spirituality and religious thinking among children of different
ages.
Robert Coles has written on this topic, among others. But I wonder, among those
on this list, does anyone know of interesting work in the development of
religious thinking? Perhaps the work of Mathews on philosophical thinking
among kids is a "best" entry, perhaps, however, there are very different
approaches. Any suggestions? Its an issue I am both curious about in general
and need to think about for pragmatic reasons. help would be appreciated.
