A few more community literacy refs, which seem to be coming my way lately:

Heath, S. B. (1994). The project of learning from the inner-city youth
perspective. In F.A. Villarruel & R.M. Lerner (Eds.), New directions for
child development: No. 63. Promoting community-based programs for
socialization and learning (pp. 25-34). San Francisco: Jossey-Bass.
Heath, S. B. (1998). Working through language. In S. M. Hoyle and C. T.
Adger (Eds.), Kids talk: Strategic use of language use in later childhood
(pp. 217-240). New York: Cambridge University Press.

I haven't read either the chapters or the books, just came across the
references. Peter
