Thought this would be fun - who knows. Below is a 5th grade
math problem from Everyday Math. Part of the Chicago Math
school. The concept is a balance in which both sides of each
part being equal.

Math Problem # 1

who-is-at @ |*****
# |*****
   |*****
________
\ /
 \ /

who-is-at = _____ #

## |*****
## |*****
***|*****
________
\ /
 \ /

#= _____ *

Math Problem # 2

Two pens equal the weight of 1 compass. 1 pen and a compass
weigh 45 grams. How many grams is a pen________ and the
compass_______.

This one was a struggle for most of the kids. Funny, tried to
convince one kid that you could turn the compass into two
pens to solve the problem. He would have no part of such
nonsense.
