The skate park is being financed by donations, and the skaters did most of the fundraising. To avoid bureaucratic complications of building on school property, the park is a gift of the community, and is being designed and constructed in such manner. Donations will also fund the hiring of skatepark "guards" under the umbrella of the Mayor's youth program.

The exploratorium web site introduces some of the science and technology of the sport! (After selecting "trickscience" or "equipment", clicking on "frontside" at the bottom of each page takes one through the web site tour)
