anna-- for a long time archiving was done by hand. But in recent years,
and for the electronic archive in particular, it occurs automatically.
As for messages that do not appear where you expect them-- as Sapir
said, systems leak. What he did not know was that internet systems
leak like a sieve! If you saved your message, send it again. If not,
light a candle and hope that someone who is currently on xmca has seen it
and can forward it to the group for (re)consideration.
