Endowed Chair in Language and Human Communication
The Sanford I. Berman Chair in Language and Human Communication is a
newly-endowed post within the Department of Communication, University of
California at San Diego. Following the donors long-time interest in the
area of language and meaning, we are seeking a senior scholar,
Professorial level, beginning Fall 2001. Areas of specialization could
include, but are not limited to: social and cultural aspects of
language; discourse analysis; theories of language; textual analysis
including the Internet and Web; rhetoric of science, technology or
media; bilingualism. Current areas of specialization within the
department include human information processing (activity theory,
Pragmatism); cultural aspects of language and media; political economy,
history and regulation of media; race, gender and ethnicity; social
analysis of computing; integration of new media and learning. The
Department is an affiliate member of the Science Studies and the Human
Development Programs on campus.
Salaries are in strict accordance with UC pay scales. The Chair carries
a research stipend. AA/EOE. If non-citizen, state immigration status.
