Ahh... Phillip, I have finally put together some pieces you were puzzling
over in Denver. There are some other perspectives to bending gender
categories according to dress, writing and class. This
working-class-raised male who may choose to write 'in drag' may be applying
the strategies available from the few accessible adults who wrote/read --
females. The 'guys' were usually fixing trucks, tractors, *working* in the
garden, fishing (drop line for keeps -- never something like fly fishing
for pleasure) and so on and so on, machismo infinitum ... *Mother* was
the one in the family who played -- cards, bingo, and the two big sisters
introduced other ways to play -- sports, word games... fascinating... who
one identifies to/with.

Thanks,
Bill
