As I worked my way through a day's worth of accumulated messages, I decided
to answer Mary Bryson's "query" by pointing her to the AERA SIG Critical
Perspectives on Early Childhood Education and naming some of the prominent
members and their works. I thought I would also preface my reply by saying
that I am one of the infrequent posters whose silence keeps surfacing as a
topic at fairly regular intervals. Well, then a bit farther down the list, 3
other members beat me to the posting I had planned. Although none mentioned the
AERA SIG, they cited the folks I would have suggested. Then a couple more
postings later, a fellow assistant prof described my hectic lifestyle exactly,
beating me to the "silence" part of my planned reply.
This happens a lot because I read accumulations of 20 or so messages late at
night. Occasionally someone does NOT anticipate my reply, and then I break my
"silence" with a once-in-a-long-while posting. Trust is never an issue for me.
I find so many postings to be on my wavelength, and much better at saying it
than I can, and often taking it farther than I had thought about it, that all I
can do is applaud (and copy to my x-archive and/or forward to a colleague with
whom I have been discussing the same topic).
And now back to work!
