ever find yourself stuck in something that
is repeatedly dismissed and critiqued and yet
there is *something* ...that hasn't yet been clarified...

and so I have been reading into bloody bloody horkheimer
and I am so aware of how the story - the
story underneath the publications,

the _pathos_ ... is written in his writings -
and I keep thinking if he
was this slightly sensitive and traumatized boy genius, director of the centre
at 30, and a huge start that ended abruptly in a total bust...

these all run in the words ...especially in the struggles, where

stuff starts fraying and yet, there is something
*in* it, in the writing. and so few really critical readings of early
Frankfurt School stuff - and the "club" is too elite for me
I mean, they won't even talk to me. I think it was 'cause I wrote
Horkhomo by accident.. BUT, what the hell.

mebbe it'll be another screenplay. mebbe it is nagging me for the wrong
reasons...

i mention this 'cause I wonder if anyone knows about a resource or source
that is more than the usual benign analysis of the texts -

i am fascinated by the fact that he refused to allow any of his stuff
to be published in English, stored all his Institute stuff in a crate
in the basement and then retreated into Hegelian/Kantian musings, and it
was when he died that the english editions were released...

and like any writer, as you get to know the story,
the theory starts to
change shape... like all theory is a story, but some stories
are really peculiar and are still unexplained.
But, oh krist. am i mad?????

well ya.
but. I'd appreciate it ever so much if anyone knows where I might
go to hash out and thrash around with this stuff in
a context of that scholarhip.
Crit theory today is NOT what is was then, so crit theory lists don't really
hold much promise. anyhow, if anyone was a thought on this,
I'd be obliged.

muchly, thanks
