Has anyone noticed that JK has disappeared and that we are all preaching
to the choir here on the multiplicity of meaning of Memorial Day, as if
the violence and loss and permanence commemorated right along with
patriotism, victories hard won, and the ephemerality of life could be
sorted out nicely so that no ones feelings were hurt?
Where will this thread lead? I am curious about the erasure of
the status of JK as one of three generations of veterans and the
invisibility of all that that must mean to him to have invoked it
in this context. If he truly meant to throw it in Naoki's face,
he was rude, and everyone has said so. If he did not, I'd like
to hear where he was trying to go with the reference....
