I ask because the Nystrand pattern is precisely what one sees in San
Diego county where the correlation with ethnicity is of course very
marked, and issues of "who deserves to be here" are raw. It is the
unanimous report of all the teacher ed students I have encountered
who have worked in both the north and south ends of county.
In that context, the exceptions REALLY need to be understood, just as we
need to understand all those exceptions that are part of an emerging new
world order. I think we have made the mistake of being born in
interesting times.
Which reminds me! Happy New Year! :-)
Here's a key question we might try to answer in the coming year: Under
what conditions do Gordon's three principles live as accepted educational
practices?
I find myself wondering, what other key questions to members have as we
think forward toward another year of joint activity. A LOT of graduate
students have signed onto the list, but my impression is that by and
large they are present, so to speak, "to listen." I am wondering,
what kind of key questions do graduate students have that might find
their answers in our musings?
What's worth getting a Ph.D. to do this kind of talk for?
I look forward to seeing you all here, wherever that is.
