I am a first year PhD student at the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser
University. My MA thesis offered a conceptual, historiographic, and
critical analysis of the place of culture in second language education and
introduced the notion of "culture exploration" as a way of conceptualizing
cultural instruction in the field of adult second language instruction.
Socio-cultural views of language and cognition were an integral part of my
theoretical framework. My PhD research will focus on Canadian textbooks for
adult second language learners of English and examine issues related to
culture teaching curriculum from socio-cultural and critical perspectives.
I would like to join this e-mail group hoping that its discussions will
enhance my understanding of current research and the joint construction of
knowledge in the area of socio-cultural theorizing.
