oh, to the soul of the sea..."

Jay's writing about African cultures' conjoinging of time with events
gave me pause for thought -
isn't that precisely how history is constructed for Western cultures?

How is time NOT related to events?

Isn't "Time" only 'knowable' through events in forms of memory and
language/signs?

p.s. Also, Jay, you say the Greeks were explicitly indebted to their
African influences; I understand that the Greeks actually worked quite hard
to deny their
associations with the Egyptians, that they co-opted much of Egyptian
culture and then
effectively disavowed their relation ... am I misled?
