I received my undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of
California at San Diego. Now I am working toward my masters in Human
Developement and Family Studies at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. My
research focusses on infant-parent attachment using Vygotskian concepts
of culture and communication to modify currently existing theories of
attachment. My area of greatest interest is in the incompatability of
the mainstream educational system with specific cultural constructs and
minority groups. Examples include the importance of collective decision
making, question asking and cultural variations in the defenition of
respect. I would like to get an idea of what views others hold about
the educational system and broaden my understanding of how these views
relate to an array of cultures. Currently I am looking at a sample
population of middle to low SES Hispanic families in West Texas. I look
forward to hearing others' interest and ideas in the discussion group.
