Hi everyone, There is on French ethno psychiatrist that sounds interesting
to me by the name of Toby Nathan. I am waiting for soemone to go to France
to bring me back some of his books. He does work with immigrants in
France (holds an open practice) and uses indiginous power to tackle
the viscissitudes of everyday racism and culture shock. He has many books
in French (I don't knwo whehter they are translated). I was reminded of
him by the advetizement for Patricia Greenfield's and Rodney Cocking's
book "Cross-cultural minority child development" on the back cover of MCA.

PS Thanks Pam for thinking the culture/coercion contradiction out and
through, I think that I'm clearer in my own mind as a result of your
post. And thanks Jay for belief in divine intervention supporting
irreducible differences. My impression was that the differences
between subjects (human and non human; animate, in-animate) were
being once again blurred. And yes, Arne the old texts do sound
really odd to me too, in 1996. I should find a quote from Marx
that made me really bounce. I'll read Engestrom any day, instead...
