Hi Andrew Cohen--
Welcome to xmca.
Your self introduction provides a new zenith of the genre for xmca.
At the xmca website (I blush to say I don't recall its www address,
but it is on the server of the comm department at UCSD) you'll lbe
able to find some recent discussions about the issues we have been
discussing which have obvious connections to your interests.

A couple of the most recent messages concern the "inter-medium" nature
of xmca discourse.... which it shares with a lot of email fora (or is
it forum?). We seem to oscillate from one extreme which is informal/
personal and one which is formal/personal. We are from all over the
world and all over the cultural/gender/age/etc mapS so maintaining
the right range of oscillation has its bumpy moments for all of us.

As a multi-generation Californian, I tend to stray over the edge of
the world on the informal/personal side, but whenever I think I
am way out there, someone pops up to let me know I am really
old foggiesh at heart.

Another recent discussion is about cultural-historical activity
theories and Gibsonian theories. Seems like you'll have a lot
to say on that score.

In any and all events, welcome and thanks for that self intro!
mike
