If anyone is interested not just in deomcratic classrooms but democratic
schools, there are several flourishing in this country and internationally.
Most are very small. There is a loose organization called the Hadera
Conference (after the first meeting in Hadera Israel a few years ago). In it
are from the US the Sudbury Valley School andthe Barbara Taylor School, from
the UK The Sands School, from Israel the Hadera Domcratic School, from Austria
--sorry I forget the name. A conference is held every year--with young people
and staff from an increasing number of schools attending and creating the
conference.

Another source of info on actual schools is AERO-GRAMME, a newsletter chock
full of information on democratic, alternative and homeschooling resources
internationally.

I am involved in discussions with various people from many of these schools on
such issues as democracy as activity (e.g., as it is at the Barbara Taylor
School) and deomcracy as structure (as it is at the Sudbury Valley School and
the 10 or so schools modeled on it).
