I know enough about email programs to understand that it is often
rather unpredictable whether a Reply message goes to the sender
or to the list. This can be a list-specific property.
It may be, however, that some messages which are meant to be of
general interest merely _appear_ at first glance to be personal
messages. Perhaps we should avoid miscues like starting a message
as if replying to the sender (e.g. "Mike, I agree with what you
wrote about ..."). I think this can be done without making the list
less friendly or personal in _tone_, so long as messages signal that
they are meant to be of general interest in _form_. JAY.
