Thank you Michael Glassman and Mike Cole for the history of the notion
of the ideal in philosophy, through historical materialist versions of it.
Thanks to Jay Lemke for the "ecosocial" perspective on materiality of
abstractions. And Eugene's last comment on prolepsis was an important
corrective to my own reasoning posted earlier (in response to Jorge's chapter
review) which suffered the "ping-pong" effect of reasoning through the acts
of individuals.

All of these and some related postings have responded to messages first
posted to the Vygotsky list, and while I appreciate Peter's reason for
not cross-posting everything, I am sure that the Vygtosky list
participants who have written messages posted to this list but who are not
on this list would probably appreciate hearing some of what is said here. I
would like to suggest to those responding to Vygotsky list messages that
they could forward their responses as a courtesy to the individual authors
they respond to.
