Angel and others might like to look at the last chapter of "Little House
in the big Woods," the first of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books. In it
Laura is writing for publication in the late 1930s about her own childhood
in the 1870s (well, supposedly Laura is writing, there is much speculation
that her daughter, Rose, was the author of the final polished drafts of these
books). In that last chapter Laura asks her Pa what auld lang syne means, and
he tells her, and she thinks about it. Her thoughts always move me to tears.
