Could you rephrase the question, now that there have been a few
responses?

Also: the question of the origin of the "tool kit" metaphor came up,
being variously attributed to Wells and Wertsch. The first
reference I've found is in Bruner's Actual Minds, Possible Worlds
(1986, Harvard U. Press) on p. 15 where he talks about a "cultural
tool kit--a set of prosthetic devices, so to speak."
