[Xmca-l] help with Russian

The word детерминистский which transliterates to "deterministic" and is 
translated as such in Chapter 1 of "Thinking and Speech" must surely 
have some other shade of meaning, as "deterministic" has a pejorative 
meaning in English, and the way Vygotsky is using it is not pejorative.
Any suggestions? causal?
