Re: [xmca] Space, neighbourhood, dwelling in, in*formation as notions with a "family resemblance"

Hello Christine,

The Rayner article that appears in this thread is my first (and only, so
far) engagement with his work. Could you orient me a bit more, especially
along the lines of a conversation with CHAT.

Peter, a conversation I had with Mike just three days ago revolved around,
not information, but imagination, in exactly the same terms as you wrote in
your post --a difference that makes a difference. If I may share an
artifact from my research with young girls in a community learning center
here in San Diego, one which I think can be helpful for us here.

You will see that you can navigate this image much as you would navigate
google maps (that's because it's actually using google maps). Andy has
circled around here on xmca a picture of connections among thinkers relevant
to CHAT. I suggest a spin-off of this idea, one that combines the imaginary
blending suggested by the "forest" image in the link I provided above with
the discussion going on here on different ways of talking about "x in y",
space, dwelling-in, in*formation, inclusion, intra*activity, and so many
more...

We can start with locating the thinkers (perhaps at first on a timeline).
But I also suggest locating these ideas imaginatively, in blended visual
spaces such as in the forest above. The bigger the image the better, since
the google maps navigation feature will let us zoom in/out. We can also
have pop-ups at specific "coordinates" of a composite image of this sort,
for example to tell us a bit more about how Dewey thinks of technology, or
Merleau-Ponty of experience, and so on.

I am too busy at the moment to take the lead in this, but I can stitch
together images as they come in and present them to you all in a navigable
interface to see if we find it useful... To begin, perhaps Andy can forward
the image of CHAT sources/influences that he circles around at some point.
I'll put it up and see how you all like it and may want to expand.
