TIER II CRC IN INDIGENOUS MENTAL HEALTH, HEALING AND WELLNESSThe Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia, Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, and Special Education invites applications for a Tier II Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Mental Health, Healing and Wellness. Applications are welcomed from scholars who are strong and innovative researchers with demonstrated expertise in studying Indigenous approaches to mental health, healing and wellness from a discipline perspective of one or more of the five program areas in the Department: Counselling Psychology; Human Learning Development and Culture, Measurement; Evaluation and Research Methodology; School Psychology; Special Education. It is expected that the successful candidate will embrace social, ecological, cultural, and community-oriented perspectives, and have an interest in applying Indigenous knowledge and approaches in relation to mental health, healing and wellness. The successful appointee also will hold a doctoral degree in Educational or Counselling Psychology or a related discipline, and will be encouraged to work across units in the Department, Faculty and UBC. The Faculty of Education within The University of British Columbia involves a rich and diverse set of researchers and comprehensive set of programmatic offerings at the baccalaureate, magisterial and doctoral levels. The Faculty includes the Department of Language and Literacy Education, the Department of Educational Studies, the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, and Special Education, the Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy, and the School of Human Kinetics, as well as various cross Faculty initiatives including the Centre for Cross Faculty Inquiry. The Faculty is a leader in Indigenous Education, offers an Aboriginal Teacher Education Program (NITEP), a graduate Indigenous education and research specialization (Ts`'kel), and is proposing a doctoral specialization in Indigenous Education; sponsors a cross-Faculty Indigenous Education Institute of Canada; publishes an annual theme issue of the Canadian Journal of Native Education; and has an Associate Dean for Indigenous Education leadership position. The Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, and Special Education (ECPS) has major graduate programs in Counselling Psychology, Human Learning Development and Culture, Measurement, Evaluation and Research Methodology, School Psychology and Special Education. The Canada Research Chair (CRC) program was established by the Canadian Federal Government with the purpose of attracting outstanding researchers to the Canadian university system. The Tier II Chair is for exceptional emerging researchers, acknowledged by their peers as having the potential to lead in their field. Applicants' proposed research program should address one or more of the priority areas noted above as well as UBC's TREK 2010 (www.trek2000.ubc.ca/) goals and strategies related to Aboriginal engagement. We are looking for a scholar with a strong record of teaching, research, and community service and who can contribute significantly to the advancement of Indigenous mental health, healing and wellness. Excellent research experience with Indigenous communities is required. This Canada Research Chair position is funded by the Canadian Institute for Health Research and is subject to review and final approval by the Canada Research Chair Secretariat. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Associate Professor (with tenure).
