POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER, UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO

The Spatial Intelligence and Learning Center (SILC) at the
University of Chicago seeks a postdoctoral researcher to design and
implement research projects at the intersection of basic science and
education. SILC is an NSF-funded, inter-university collaboration
between the University of Chicago, Temple University, Northwestern
University and the University of Pennsylvania. The postdoctoral
researcher will work directly with the institutional principal
investigator on research that is aimed at understanding the course of
children’s spatial development and how variations in environmental
factors impact this development. It is expected that the studies
associated with this position will shed light on the acquisition of
fundamental spatial processes, how this acquisition is related to
schooling (particularly the formal learning of mathematics and
science), and the types of experiences that enhance children’s spatial
learning and intelligence.

The postdoctoral researcher will participate in all aspects of
research management, development and implementation. He/she will
supervise several full-time employees as well as part-time student
employees working on a number of separate projects. He/she will serve
as the main liaison with school administrators and teachers, including
working with teachers to evaluate school curricula for spatial content
and identify opportunities to integrate spatial learning into
classroom practice.

A doctoral degree is required in psychology, cognitive science, or
education with research interests in cognitive development, preferably
mathematical or spatial development. Experience supervising and
coordinating the work of others and strong project management skills
are preferred. Must be able to represent SILC to diverse audiences.

Start date is flexible; preferred date is by June 1. Interested
candidates should send a CV, a research statement, preprints/reprints
of papers, and two letters of recommendation to:
