Re: [xmca] Fwd: NYTimes.com: Hispanic Immigrants' Children Fall Behind Peers Early, Study Finds

Mike,
I have read the paper from the NY Times Journalist. A lot of questions emerged to my mind... But my experience with scientific journalist is not always satisfactory (not taking about sex...). So let's follow up the publication of the original paper and then continue discussing. A line of argument against the implicit "cultural quality camparison" implied in the paper: what about bilingualism? In which language were the test applied to all the participants in the study? (it seems to be an "ex post facto" study with data already collected) Between the second and the third year language starts to play a central role for cognitive -and motivatinal/emotional- self regulation, in which language produced the participants their private speech, if any? Does the UCSD Library suscription to the Maternal and Child Health Journal? Could you Mike please make me that favor (I guess Robert Lecusay should be interested too... :-)).
NACHO.
